SPIRITUAL ADVENTURES IN THE GOBI MOUNTAIN LAKE

This spiritual adventure to western Mongolia will lead you to experience the ancient traditions of Tantra meditation in remote natural sites, within the mysterious Gobi.

From ancient times meditation has been developed in many different ways as unique forms of personal development tools and also been tied to traditions. There are today as many forms of meditation as the number of people who practice it, and it is more about finding the method that suits best each individual. Our goal is to combine Tantra meditation with other activities designed to open you to new experiences. After a morning yoga class, you will walk each day for about three to four hours among the exquisite gobi sand mountains, sand dune rivers, and lakes. Each day will be different and the level of difficulty will range from easy to moderate, suitable for most reasonably active people. We designed beautiful and relaxing moments with meditation and yoga, with perfect locations selected for delicious gourmet picnics.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1. AT THE CAPITAL, CITY OF MAHAYANA TRADITIONS

Your Mongolian spiritual adventure starts from the heart of Mongolia’s capital city. With a rich Buddhist past and flourishing modern touches, Ulaanbaatar is the largest city in Mongolia and one of the few capitals in the world with Mahayana traditions. The culture, food, and attitude of its residents reflect this "Buddhist Perspective Spirit". Get settled in on your first day and check-in to your hotel, located at the very center of the city.

We shall begin our first discoveries with a walk to the ancient Buddhist temple “Gandan Tegchilen”, introducing teachings in Buddhism and spirituality. The name Gandantegchileng has a very deep and beautiful meaning: Gan is literally translated as “rejoice”, Dan for perfect, Teg is the vehicle, and its value brought higher with the term “Tegchlin”: signifying Mahayana (Greater Vehicle). Leng is the name of the island that brings Mahayana Island of Perfect Rejoice, a metaphor for Monastery. Gandan is the largest and most important monastery of Mongolia, with over 400 monks today. After the first part of the day inspired by this unique environment and teachings, a lunch break will follow at a local restaurant.

Let's then attend a Traditional Mongolian authentic performance including folk dances, throat singing, and contortion at the Tumen Ekh Ensemble. Following the concert, we take a walk through the city’s very center of heart, Sukhbaatar Square, where major events and celebrations have been held since the socialist era.

We shall then have welcome dinner to be introduced to our team, and review together the nighlights of your journey. we will become a family during this great 2 week adventure, sharing the very best moments together, and giving you needed space for your spiritual experience and self development.

Day 2. THE LAND OF MANJUSHRI, WESTERN ROCKIES

A short flight will take you to Uliastai town, the capital of Zavkhan province, on the slopes of the sacred Majestic Mountain (Otgontenger), Western Mongolia. From the airport, our drivers pick us up and venture to reach the Gobi mountain meditation to the unique rocky mountains "The western Rockies", a rare and sacred mountain with famous meditation caves where lamas experienced Tantric retreats.

It will take us about three hours driving to get there. We soon will be amazed by the incredible view of the Rockies, from the road between large steppes cut by small deserts and sand dunes zones. They stick out of the ground for an unusual sight. We will be among them for the coming days. The peak of these mountains culminates at 2,500m (7,464 ft). A place with unbelievable powerful energy and a sacred paradise for great meditations. The Mountains are also stunning, with their natural canyons and cliffs, and we count 108 caves in the area (an important number in Mahayana Buddhist traditions). Upon our arrival, we will set our camp and have a beautiful outdoor dinner together while enjoying the crisp fresh air.

It is belived the Bodhisatva Manjushri represents the Rocky mountains of Western Mongolia. Manjushri ia a Buddha that incarnate wisdom in all beings. He is considered in Mahayana Buddhism one of the four Great Bodhisatvas. The Great Rockies arean incarnation of the majic of Manjushri:standing right in the middle of the great western Gobi, and bringing life to many species.

Day 3. EXCURSION IN THE ROCKIES

On this day and after a quiet breakfast surrounded by the rocky formations, we start to hike to the stunning Elephant Rockies, accessible only by a narrow corridor made out of fallen rocks. There, let's find the cave named the Elephant's Eye, to enjoy meditation and relaxation with a view over the valley. It will require a little climbing, but be ensured that our team will help you out very nicely! The Mountain is also very beautiful with its naturally shaped canyons and cliffs. We count about 108 caves (an important number in Buddhism traditions) which are famous for having hosted Buddhist meditation practitioners. Here we meditate about the very nature and power of the elephants and to remain humble facing those giant creatures, in harmony with the scene. Among these unique rocks, we will lie down to a very particular rock shape, that resembles a floor made by men, being an extremely flat surface and dark color, contrasting with the entire rough-looking area. We will then enjoy a different type of meditation, lying on our belly to connect and charge our own batteries (resting) thanks to this very energetic place.

In the evening, we shall have an amazing view over the last light of the day, sitting on the rocks over our camp. Here, the sunsets are incredible and easily some of the highlights of the trip! We can there sit a few minutes for the last day's meditation. Our camp made of two semipermanent tents along with a shared space for cooking, open-air dining, and bio bathroom and an outdoor shower make up this special retreat known simply as the Rockies Outpost.

Day 4. THE SEVEN BOWL AND GATE ROCK VALLEY

This is called the "Water of Ibex" or mountain goat. This is a great place to meditate, to find inner peace in this serene atmosphere. We shall go up the mountain after this session. Then enjoy a beautiful and tasty picnic on top of the rocks, for a spectacular view over the valleys. On the way down we visit the stunning rock formation "Gate Rock" this unique rock formation that looks like a gateway to this beautiful Gobi Shangrila.

The park host various panoramas of wetlands, grasslands, larch, forests, lakes, sand dune, and rivers. This quiet region is a treasure on its own, one of the most beautiful places in the whole of Mongolia.

The best way to really experience meditation among the diverse and picturesque landscape is hiking around at a gentle rhythm and starting the meditations in a perfect place. Nature has always been one of our greatest teachers. However, stressed by the demand for modern life, constantly chasing time and success, people tend to forget the primary power of nature. You will fully immerse yourself in these exquisite surroundings and you will feel your soul come alive.

In 1.5 hours drive, we first visit the magnificent Mukhart River, an almost oddity with its water source flowing out of the sands and creating an incredible Gobi ecosystem. This water nourishes all the small bushes and trees and providing wild fruits in the area. We shall enjoy a beautiful little hike barefoot in the water along the paths of the flowing river. This first contact will let you appreciate even Nature, making one with your surroundings. This beautiful walk through the sand and dune river will take about three hours of gorgeous exploring of this unique Gobi. Your outpost for the night is Desert tent camping before gets there, we explore Gate Rock, a unique rock formation on the summit of the mountain.

The tent camp will host a maximum of 5 guests with 2 tents. Here you will spend three nights in a Luxury Eco-Tent, focused on preserving the environment. It will be our starting point for the several spiritual expeditions and nonstop adventure in the region, uncovering the treasures of the West Gobi. You will have the pleasure to enjoy the warm welcoming culture of the West, and an exquisite cuisine including our own plant-based recipe only to be found at the tent camp. Each ingredient has been specially selected in order to provide joy and energy for the spiritual adventure to come.

Here, the dunes are ending themselves into the water, creating a surreal beach effect. Its natural beauty is, in a word, mind-blowing. Start the journey with short hiking up to the hill where we experience a soft yoga session in front of an unbelievable view towards the endless Great Mongol Dunes.

Let the sand kiss your feet while hiking down to the shoreline. Delight yourself in guided water meditation while having your feet in the lake. We are one of the lovely rocky bay of the lake. The "Water Meditation" creates an infinite flow that moves through the whole body and reminds you of your true origin: we are made of water. Here we meditate for about an hour to realize the water within our body and feel the flow coming from outside. A gourmet picnic will be set up for our lunch at the shore of the lake, facing lots of beautiful peninsulas that penetrate into the lake. We shall rest and stay for a while, then drive back to the tent camp. We end the day here, with a beautiful sunset over the sands.

Upon arrival, our nomad family welcomes us with a typical Mongolian dish. In the evening, we experience more about the nomadic way of life by helping to gather the animals back to the camp. The family owns horses, cows, and yaks, goats, and sheep. At this altitude (about 2500meters), the cows are usually replaced with yaks and hybrid breeds by nomad families. In this region, we also cooperate with other nomad families for the Argadai and Berhdei Projects, reintroducing to the nomads the native Mongolian guardian dog “Bankhar”.

Day 12. HIKE UP TO THE HIGH SPIRITUAL MOUNTAIN

This morning, an inviting breakfast will welcome you to start the day, on the patio of our house, just next to the ger stay. Following it, we will prepare packing our essentials to hike up a high spiritual mountain located just between the Tarvagatai National Park mountain area. This mountain is a very spiritual place, being the location sheltering 2 saint's stupa at the top. The visitors come to worship the entire mountain for its high energy and be blessed from the 2 saint's stupa.

As we reach the top, it will be interesting to see inside of the stupa, our eyes peeking through a specially made opening, to observe the mommy of a 200 years old monk, resting in a deep meditative state. The start of this small hike will be challenging for first-time trekkers because the energy of this place is very powerful. Most of the travelers feel some difficulties walking up the first part of the mountain, but after reaching mid-point, the legs will feel much lighter, and the hike itself a real joy. The overall trekking distance is only about 2-3 km, but it will feel much more. When we come back from this journey, our cook will welcome you with a delicious lunch. By nightfall, you will be amazed by a sky full of stars in this vast valley, wrapping up this day, ready for another adventure.

The view over the valley and our distant campsite will be just stunning, and from the top of a sharp shaped rock, it will be possible to create epic photographs! We will enjoy a small pace to get back to our cars down the valley and be back to our camp with a peaceful heart.

We start from the Erdene Zuu Temple, Museum its oldest structure dates to 1585 with an incredible Buddhist art display inside a museum on-site. Indeed, it is a rich cultural history that has existed for over 400 years. The iconic tankas, appliques, the precious sculptures of diverse Buddha's, ancient Buddhist wall paintings religious instruments as the fascinatingly introduced are truly unique.

And witnessing living Buddhist tradition, daily chanting of Lams at Lavrin Temple. And uniquely, it seems to have become totally acceptable for us to join in and be involved in the ritual – all for a photo opportunity. The morning or daily chanting ritual is an important part of Buddhist culture and, despite being a spiritual ceremony, you are able to observe and become involved – but only if you are willing to do respectfully. In chant, the power of sound connects us with ourselves, one another, and the divine. It is an ancient, tried, and true form of meditation and prayer. One of the most transformative and nonsectarian spiritual practices, chanting almost immediately takes us out of our heads and beyond the mind, into realms of pure spirit and bliss. Shortly after we will immerse ourselves in the deep history of the Great Empire at the city History museum. A shuttle ride takes us back to our private hotel for a refreshing shower before dinner. This will be our last country dining night where we bring our good memories with great emotions to all of our members of the Mongolian team.

For the final morning at the Desert Tent Outpost, you will enjoy one last breakfast on the dunes, before driving to the highly sacred mountains of the nomads. Your next home away sits high on the shore of the Green Gem Lake of the Khangai Mountain chain, where you can truly connect with nature. This entire region is even wilder than the previous, and it is a very good opportunity to rest and find your own inner peace.

This high peaked massif in Khangai Mountain National Park is regarded as holy in the indigenous nomadic tradition for centuries. The landscape will gradually change as we enter a forested zone with stunning views over mountains, forests, and nomadic campsites. We shall see the snow-capped, sacred peak “Mount Otgon-Tenger” culminating at 4021m (13192f) above sea level. It is the fifth-highest mountain in the country.

Driving on gravel for a few hours, nature, and scenery is just epic. After four hours of driving, we will reach our nomad family in the high mountains. There you will be invited to a delightful lunch table and introduced to the surrounding mountains and upcoming activities. You will get some good rest and wrap your afternoon with relaxing yoga and a gentle hike to nearby hills.

YOGA SESSION: VINYASA FLOW YOGA
DRIVING: 4-5 hours

After our morning yoga and breakfast, we will head to a nomad family in heart of the Khangai Mountain Range, central Mongolia. The area is at the origin of many historical vestiges, picturesque landscapes, featuring sacred mountains, rich flora and fauna, making it the perfect place to discover the nomadic lifestyle of Mongolia.

We will pass through two high passes on the way, driving through stunning mountains, forests, rivers, and nomadic campsites. We will stay the next days with a nomad family where you experience yourself the nomadic lifestyle, share time with nomads, play with children, and attend daily duties such as milking a yak and producing dairy products with them.

In this region, we also cooperate with other nomad families for the
Argadai and Berhdei Projects, reintroducing to the nomads the native Mongolian guardian dog “Bankhar”.

YOGA SESSION: VINYASA FLOW YOGA

Then, we will visit the oldest and most beautiful monastery of Mongolia, Erdene Zuu, with 108 stupas, built by Abtai Sain Khan in 16th, in its prime 10,000 lamas practiced in Buddhism.
